Reginaldo (Regi) and Amy Haslett-Marroquin established Salvatierra Farm as a place to put regenerative agriculture theory into full practice. Rooted in Regi’s Indigenous and ancestral knowledge, the farm serves as a thriving example of an agroforestry-based poultry system designed to restore land while supporting viable farm livelihoods.
Together, Regi and Amy operate Salvatierra as both a working farm and a proving ground. Regi developed this poultry-centered regenerative system over decades and has since helped farmers across the country—and internationally—implement it. Salvatierra Farm gives them a home base to refine the model at scale and demonstrate how it can function in real-world conditions.
The farm’s diversified design supports reforestation, soil regeneration, carbon sequestration, and water purification. Poultry move through a carefully planned landscape of native perennials and annual crops, contributing fertility and generating early cash flow. In Minnesota, the system includes red and white oaks, honey locusts, and basswoods forming the overstory, with hazelnuts and elderberries beneath. Crops, medicinal plants, cut flowers, and restored habitat round out the operation, creating a resilient and evolving ecosystem.
One of the strengths of Regi’s system is its adaptability. Built on a few essential elements—native perennials, annual crops, and poultry—it can be implemented in diverse regions while responding to local ecosystems and markets.
In 2023, Iroquois Valley deepened its commitment to advancing regenerative agriculture by launching a new impact investment designed to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) farmers. Through the Rooted in Regeneration Notes (RNR Notes), a portion of investor returns is directed into a shared pool that helps reduce the cost of land ownership by providing mortgage discounts for BIPOC farmers. Within the first six months, more than $4 million of these notes were issued.
Salvatierra Farm was among the first farms supported through the RNR Pool. Iroquois Valley is proud to partner with Regi and Amy in the acquisition of 75 acres in Bridgewater Township, Minnesota—land that now serves as the foundation for Salvatierra Farm and a long-term home for their regenerative vision.
With poultry infrastructure in place, Salvatierra Farm is also part of a growing, BIPOC-led regional network of regenerative farming enterprises organized through the nonprofit Regenerative Agriculture Alliance and marketed as Tree-Range® Chicken.
Salvatierra Farm stands as both a working operation and a roadmap—demonstrating how regenerative agriculture, when paired with innovative financing and strong partnerships, can restore land, strengthen communities, and scale lasting impact.
